Trim Repair & Replacement

3 story home with a pool that's covered

The trim work on your home deserves the same level of attention as its siding. While the word “trim” may sound like trim work is superfluous, merely ornamental, the trim surrounding your windows and doors acts as a seal, keeping water from seeping into the walls. Because it reduces drafts and helps retain heat, replacing the trim around exterior doors and windows can help reduce energy costs.

And don’t underestimate the impact of playing up the decorative aspect of trim. If you will be replacing the trim around your windows, consider adding something such as ornamental corner blocks to dress up your home’s appearance.

While wood was long the go-to material choice for trim work, the salt and sea air of Cape Cod makes its upkeep a challenge, which is why we often recommend using a composite material. The leader in the market, for both its durability and visual appeal, is Azek®, a cellular PVC product that can be painted if desired and comes with a 25-year warranty. It performs wonderfully as trim, fascia, soffit, beadboard, window and door surrounds, and more.

For those who prefer wood trim, we install Bodyguard®, a natural, pressure-treated wood product, made from primed pine with a paint-ready finish. And for a classic cottage look, where a home is left untreated and allowed to naturally weather to a silver hue, we use cedar.

Ryan Construction built us a new set of front steps to our exact specifications and they came in under budget. They also put a new granite tile face over our brick fireplace then built a gorgeous mantle for it. We are very pleased and will definitely hire them again.
